Are you ready for the upcoming challenges of high school including verbal assessments, debates, class presentations and speeches? Don’t stress, just grab a couple of buddies and join this really easy, fun,  and practical public speaking workshop that will leave you feeling empowered and energised.

Through games and interactive exercises learn how to: speak with confidence; prepare and deliver verbal assessments; and organise and express your ideas.

Description

This communication workshop gives you hacks to overcome nerves and speak publicly with confidence and authority however, there’s no pressure to perform and everyone participates in their own space and time.

You will learn how to think quickly and find the right words at the right time, control you nerves using breathing and visualisation, learn new skills to create compelling stories and how to structure your ideas so they make sense.


COURSE STRUCTURE

9.00-10.30

  • We get to know one another by playing journalists. We interview one another in pairs and learn how to ask interesting questions.
  • Take turns at being a news reader and write radio news stories
  • Play some games and do a ‘panel interview’ mock TV show.

10.30-10.50 Morning tea (BYO snack)

  • The Great Debate. Students learn debating rules then create their own debate topic and work in teams to prepare their presentation.
  • Students learn teamwork, leadership, collaboration and listening skills, plus how to present a persuasive argument based on facts rather than opinion.

12.30-1.00 Lunch (BYO Lunch)

1.00-2.30

  • Memorable speeches.  Each student will choose their own topic to make a 3 minute speech. It can be humorous, inspiring, educational, or entertaining. They will learn how to group, sort and prioritise information, create a narrative, and present it with confidence.

2.30 -3.00

  • Self reflection and listening skills
  • Vocabulary word game.

PLUS: Throughout the day we practice 3 different breathing techniques for anxiety, concentration and relaxation
